The festival celebrates the founding of the Jambay Lhakhang Monastery, which is believed to have been built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet. The monastery is one of the oldest and most sacred in Bhutan, and its significance is deeply embedded in the spiritual life of the region.

The festival features a variety of masked dances, including the unique Tercham (Naked Dance) and the Fire Dance, which are believed to ward off evil spirits and bring blessings. These dances are accompanied by vibrant music and colorful costumes, creating a visually stunning spectacle.
