Visa and Entry Requirements
For International Tourists (except India, Bangladesh, Maldives):
- Visa Application:
All international tourists must apply for a Bhutanese visa through a licensed tour operator or travel agent.
The visa is processed online by the Department of Immigration.
A scanned passport copy (valid for at least six months) is required for the application. - Sustainable Development Fee (SDF):
USD 100 per night/ per person. - Route Permits
How to Apply: Route permits are usually arranged by your tour operator or at the Department of Immigration in Thimphu and Paro.
Documents Required: Valid passport, visa, or entry permit.
For Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian Citizens:
No visa is required, but an Entry Permit is mandatory.
The passport or Voter ID card is accepted. SDF for Indian ₹1,200 per day per adult, ₹600 for children aged 5–12.
By Air:
Paro International Airport, serviced by Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines.
By Road:
Phuentsholing: The primary land entry point from West Bengal, India.
Other border crossings: Samdrup Jongkhar and Gelephu.
